About Ian Duncan: A Community Leader and Voice for Winnipeg Families
My journey began in Jamaica, where I was raised by an incredible single mother whose strength, determination, and unconditional love shaped the person I am today. While she worked tirelessly to provide for our family, I was also blessed to be surrounded by relatives who became my second family. They taught me the value of kindness, community, and helping one another.
Watching my mother work every day to overcome life's challenges gave me an important lesson at a young age: hard work matters, family comes first, and no one should have to face life's struggles alone.
Those experiences continue to guide every decision I make today.
After moving to Canada, I was determined to create opportunities for my family.
I built a career as a machinist welder while also starting my own deck and fence business. Like many hardworking Manitobans, I understood that success comes from dedication, perseverance, and being willing to work long hours to build a better future.
Together with my wife, we raised four wonderful children who have grown into successful adults. Family has always remained my greatest source of pride and motivation.
Politics was never part of my original plan.
After retiring, I became involved with community leaders who shared my passion for serving others. Their commitment to improving people's lives inspired me to step forward and become involved in public service.
I realized that the values I had lived by throughout my life-integrity, hard work, compassion and service-were exactly the values our communities needed in leadership.
Today, I am honoured to serve as community Leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party and continue working toward a stronger Manitoba for everyone.
